Books of 2019

Books of 2019

2019 has been one of the best, and most chaotic, years of my life. In the midst of so much change, reading is one of the essential hobbies to help keep me centered and calm. It’s what you could call self-care for me.

A good book and a big cup of coffee is one my favorite pairings. Over the last couple of years, I’ve started keeping a list of the books I’ve read in order to quickly answer the frequent question of: “Have you read anything good lately?”

So here is every book I’ve read throughout the past 12 months:

  1. Majority World Theologies: Theologizing from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Ends of the Earth

  2. Letters to the Church

  3. The Shadow Rising (Book 4 of The Wheel of Time Series)

  4. The Fires of Heaven (Book 5 of The Wheel of Time Series)

  5. Lord of Chaos (Book 6 of The Wheel of Time Series)

  6. A Crown of Swords (Book 7 of The Wheel of Time Series)

  7. Path of Daggers (Book 8 of The Wheel of Time Series)

  8. Winter’s Heart (Book 9 of The Wheel of Time Series)

  9. The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business

  10. A Why to Live For: Where your destiny meets the broken places of the world

  11. The Very Worst Missionary: A Memoir or Whatever

  12. Love Does: Discover a Secretly Incredible Life in an Ordinary World You can read my book review of Love Does by clicking here.

  13. Thank You for Being Late: An Optimist’s Guide to Thriving in the Age of Accelerations

  14. Free to Focus: A Total Productivity System to Achieve More by Doing Less

  15. Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the CIA, Afghanistan, and Bin Laden, from the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001

  16. Paul: A Biography

  17. A Seat at the Table: A Generation Reimagining Its Place in the Church

  18. The Road to Character

  19. The End is Always Near: Apocalyptic Moments, from the Bronze Age Collapse to Nuclear Near Misses

  20. The Color of Compromise: The Truth about the American Church’s Complicity in Racism

  21. Signs of Life: Resurrecting Hope out of Ordinary Losses You can read my book review of Signs of Life by clicking here.

  22. Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again

Of all of these books, I’ve had several of them help me develop or re-form thoughts and beliefs in my life, and many on this list are wonderful books. My two favorite books of the year, however, are Signs of Life (great if you are a Christian dealing with challenges in your life) and Majority World Theologies (a beautiful survey of missions’ theology if you are passionate about global missions).

I hope you’ll add some of these books to your reading list for 2020! Comment below with any questions about these books and also what books I should check out in the new year.

Happy reading!
